IKMultimedia Sampletank Free

OK, this one is a “no-brainer”. The newest version of Sampletank Free (2.5) is a “full-featured” version of Sampletank. It comes with 500MB of samples for free (don’t forget to download them; they’re separate), but unlike previous versions, can also be expanded just by purchasing the sample sets available from the “Powered by SampleTank” range and any of the “Expansion Tank 2″ sound sets, as well as importing your own WAV, AIFF, SDII, AKAI S-1000/3000, and Samplecell files.

It has all of the features of the full fledged product, just not the sample sets (which can be purchased at a later time if you wish).

Again, for free? A no-brainer must-have. Seriously.

Drumcore Free by Sonoma Wire Works

Drumcore Free is a “light” version of the full Drumcore product. It can be used as a “groove player” or as a triggered drum sampler. It includes only 2 drumkits (rock/pop and hip-hop),  and is definitely a “tease” of the full product as it cannot be expanded or added to without puchase, but is still fairly useful.

A one trick pony, and kind of silly, but it may be useful in some instances, and heck; IT’S FREE!

Digidesign Structure Free

This is now included in all new versions of Pro Tools.

KeyToSound Remedy

RemedyIt appears that this plugin has been taken over by Koblo and is (sadly) no longer available, and I think it is a crying shame.

This is was one of the coolest and most useful free synths on the market.

Highly recommended if you can still find it (“Seek and Ye shall find” ). Current version last I checked was 1.1r3

Digidesign XPand!

XPand2!  is now included in all new versions of Pro Tools making this plugin obsolete.

Digidesign’s XPand! comes with all new Pro Tools systems. Unfortunately, if you have an older system and don’t yet have XPand, it cannot be downloaded. You can only get XPand by stopping by your local retailer and getting it free (if they have it in stock) or by ordering it from the Digistore and paying $10 for shipping. Trust me, it’s worth the $10. I use it at least once in almost every music production session that I do. This is a must have instrument plugin.

Highly recommended.
